While East London is
gearing up for the Olympics,
Soho is preparing for its
own moment in the global
spotlight – WorldPride 2012.
The theme for this year’s World
Pride Parade is ‘One World, One Pride,
One Voice’ and all parade participants will
be getting involved with this theme both
in their costumes and floats
on 7th July.
Pride Festival
The Pride London Festival started in 2006
when London hosted EuroPride. It was a
highly successful Festival, with over 100 shows
and this year for WorldPride, the festival is
back, bigger and better than ever! From the
Gay Photographers Network to Trannyshack
featuring The Drag With No Name, there is
something to tickle any cultural fancy. The
Festival runs from 25th June – 8th July and the
details of all shows, exhibitions and cabaret
events are on the website.
Parade and Speeches
The World Pride Parade itself will start at
Baker Street on 7th July at 1 pm and make its
way down Oxford Street and Regent Street,
moving down Pall Mall and Cockspur Street as
it passes Trafalgar Square and continues down
Whitehall where it will end at around 4.30 pm.
Things kick off on the main stage at Trafalgar
Square from 14:00 and continue until 19:30.
Soho Street Party
But the fun isn’t restricted to the parade and
Trafalgar Square! From midday, Soho will be
traffic free and instead party fever takes over.
The Soho Street Party will feature a dance
arena hosted by Golden Square which will
have a mix of DJs featuring Simon Le Vans
from Gaydar Radio and Zach Burns Bach from
Popcorn and the Edge Bar. All bars will be
serving in plastic glasses so you can take
a wander with your pint and for the first
time, there are free water stations to keep
you hydrated and avoid the dreaded post-
WorldPride hangover.
After Parties
And when things are winding up in Soho,
there is a range of after parties to choose
from. Electric Brixton will be hosting
the glittering HustlaBall while the girls
official after party will be Code at the
Green Carnation in Greek Street. Hidden
Nightclub is also hosting Urban World
Pride Party 2012, the official after party.
