WE ARE:
PROUD
On the 14 July, Bristol will
declare WE ARE: PROUD with
the South West’s largest ever
Pride Parade and an impressive
free music and arts festival
on College Green and the
surrounding area.
WE ARE: PROUD is the jewel in the crown
of a weeklong cultural celebration of Film,
Theatre, Art and Dance which will place
Bristol firmly on the global Pride map, as
once again the city welcomes its LGBT
population and supporters from all over the
UK and beyond.
WE ARE: PROUD promises a free, unfenced
and highly visible outdoor pride festival in
the heart of beautiful Bristol city, with five
performance areas and two full stages of live
music. Over forty acts are already signed up
to perform including a headline set from
the legendary soul singer Martha Wash
performing her string of number 1 hits from
the Weathergirls, Black Box and C+C Music
Factory.
Festival Organiser Daryn Carter said: “It is
a real honour to have such overwhelming
support but more so to be able to showcase
messages from such positive role models.’’
This year’s
Pride will also
include a bustling
market area and for
the first time welcomes the
‘Co-Operative’ Community Area and the
‘Enterprise’ Family Area which will host
the We Are: Proud Alternative Families
Campaign looking at role models for LGBT
youth, the effects of homophobic bullying
and providing a place for LGBT parents and
parents of LGBT people to come together.
As evening falls, the action will move to the
city streets as an evening Street Fiesta brings
Pride Night to life which includes a bold
takeover of the O2 Academy for the unique
and ambitious equestrian inspired party
DRESSAGE, hosted by alternative dance
night Horseplay .
WE ARE: PROUD is a chance for LGBT
people, their friends, families and the whole
of the South West to stand up and declare
they are proud of who they are.
WE ARE: PROUD is a community event for
the whole of the South West and everybody
is welcome to the festival.
