Anne Cook, Associate Member WRAC was compelled to put pen to paper and write this lovely poem, having seen LGBT+ Veterans march at the Cenotaph. Thanks to Anne for allowing us to share her poem with you.
Fighting With Pride.
Don’t look at me differently because I am the hero of my story.
I am Fighting With Pride.
Only a soldier can understand, that other kinds of soldiers are also the heroes of the story.
I am Fighting With Pride.
A soldier is a soldier whether they are man or woman, born and raised.
Fighting with Pride.
A soldier is a person who stands tall for all. Freedom is given, so we all breathe.
Fighting with Pride.
Please don’t abandon me in my hour of need. The uniform I wear makes it clear that I belong. The love for my country is strong.
Fighting with Pride.
If I should not come home from the battlefield. Remember me and bring me home. Smile and know that I died.
Fighting with Pride!
