Singer, musician, songwriter, and rapper Kristine Flaherty – otherwise known as K. Flay – has had a busy year so far with the ‘start of her next chapter’ of music. Following the release of the new full-length studio album MONO, we got in touch with the relentlessly boundary-pushing artist to find out, what makes K. Flay.

What Makes me… Happy

Being with my friends, being with my family, finishing a great book, writing a song, going for a very long walk, semi-obsessively cleaning my countertops, traveling the world to play shows, learning new words, watching my nephews grow up.

Sad

Losing someone I love, hurting someone I love, thinking about how my hearing won’t ever go back to ‘normal’.

Angry

Watching my government roll back civil rights legislation, reading about another mass shooting, seeing young people dying from drug and alcohol addiction, feeling like the world cares more about corporations and money than it does about people.

Proud

Putting out this new album, being someone my friends and family can count on, finishing a really tough workout, building something.

Included

Going to shows, having a home cooked meal, writing and producing songs with other artists, visiting new cities and feeling the common threads of being alive.

Fearful

Thinking too far into the future, worrying about death and what death like EVEN IS, watching too many TikToks, reading internet comments.

Uncomfortable

Sleeping on a really soft bed, being extremely hot, eating at a noisy restaurant.

Safe

Being at home, hugging my girlfriend, playing music, talking to my parents.
