Disruptive fashion brand 1133 debut in immersive theatrical performance for City of London’s Bartholomew Fair.
Artists take part in the debut performance of 1133 by Kit Green, an immersive theatrical runway show in Festival Gardens as part of the City of London’s revival of Bartholomew Fair. These images were taken on Friday 1 September 2023, and the fair ran until 16 September. It was a punchy, re-imagination of Ben Johnson’s original Bartholomew Fair play – a modern-mash up of high-fashion, and queer joy.

A spokesperson for the City of London Corporation said:
“The reimagination of Bartholomew Fair, a new landmark programme for the City of London, allows us to support and facilitate new and diverse shows such as 1133 by Kit Green. It’s fantastic to be able to showcase spectacular performances like this that pay homage to the City’s unique heritage through a contemporary lens.”
Kit Green said:
“I was delighted to be commissioned by the City of London to make a piece about the history of the Fair. I first saw the Jonson play in the late ‘80s at the National Theatre and its irreverence, genre-busting and energy has stayed with me. So, making my version of that play was a natural choice. I can’t wait to share my contemporary take with audiences – those that know the history of the Fair and those that know nothing about it. High fashion meets deconstructed theatricality to capture a slice of modern life. I secretly think Ben Jonson would approve.”
