Shrek the Musical is bringing fun back to a September in Oxford which so far has been dominated by back-to-school-itis and weather woes. Do something lovely for the child in you or the child in your family and head to the New Theatre this week for two and a half hours of exceptional song, dance – and fart jokes.

Highly camp and highly polished, Shrek the Musical has the talented Antony Lawrence in a lead role he is clearly revelling, and Joanne Clifton is a revelation as Fiona (clearly not Strictly dancing, her singing voice is powerful, and her comic timing is flawless).

The rest of the cast easily equal the two leads: Brandon Lee Sears is a beguiling Donkey with the soulful voice of a classic crooner and Cherece Richards as Dragon/Wicked Witch comes close to stealing the show in Forever, her song of unrequited love.

The rest of the ensemble cast are equally gifted and play their part in making Shrek the Musical a seamless, slick and jaunty reworking of the much beloved Dreamworks classic.
